Red light therapy devices: your questions answered
What is the best red light therapy device for beginners?
It depends on the area you want to treat. For face and neck skincare, an LED mask is the simplest place to start; for recovery of larger muscle groups, a panel or mat suits better. Our buyer's guide walks through how to choose.
What wavelengths should a red light therapy device have?
Most evidence-backed devices use 660nm red light for the skin's surface and 850nm near-infrared for deeper tissue. Our panels, belt and mat pair both, while the Spectrum Pro Mask goes further with four wavelengths - green, yellow, red and near-infrared.
What is the difference between a mask, panel, belt and mat?
The mask targets the face (add the neck with the Mask + Neck bundle), the panel covers larger areas from a distance, the belt wraps a specific area like the lower back, and the mat covers large areas while you lie down. Match the device to the area you care about most. Comparing masks specifically? See our LED face mask comparison guide.
Are Lumovex red light therapy devices safe to use at home?
They are non-invasive and generally considered low-risk for healthy adults when used as directed. If you are pregnant, take photosensitising medication, or have a medical condition, check with a healthcare professional first.
How often should I use red light therapy?
Most routines involve roughly 10 to 20 minutes per area, several times a week. Consistency over time tends to matter more than any single long session.
